City of Lincoln Pentaqua (CLP) swimmers took Bramcote Swimming Club's Invitational Gala by storm on Saturday 5 September and returned home triumphant.
CLP fielded a team of young swimmers some of whom were making their debut competitive swims - Daniel Davis, George Edwards, Thomas Green, Isabella Spilman, and Bella Williams. There were some very gutsy and determined swims and all were supported by their team mates. The atmosphere was electrifying at times, with the spectators cheering their swimmers on to a finger tip finish in some races.
Other members of the team were more experienced in the competitive field and included Chloe Battersby, Rhys Cook , Kate Davison, Harry and Heather Furnish, Alex Hird, Katie Gilman- Abel, Emily Green, Liam, Michael and Roisin Noonan, Bethany Walker, Emily Walsh, and Tonicha Watson. The poolside coaching team of Guy Hird and Wendy Webb made sure that all were focused on their performance.
In spite of summer holidays the swimmers still performed to a good standard and many of the CLP swimmers finished within the top 4 for their age groups, which meant valuable points for the CLP team. An outstanding 41 PBs and 32 County Qualifying Times were recorded from the evening, demonstrating that the training programme and the hard work are bringing in the right results.
"It is very encouraging to see that there are some very promising and talented "up and coming" swimmers in the junior squads. I am really proud of their successful performance and sportsmanship that they demonstrated at this event. Well done to all!" commented Anita Ruffle, CLP Chairman.
At the end of the night CLP swimmers excelled themselves and brought home the Top Boy and Top Girl titles and also were awarded the Top Visiting Club award. CLP won by a clear 50 points overall. This was CLP's first visit to Bramcote's Invitational Gala, and looks to be the first of many as CLP were invited back to participate next year.
CLP is proud to be sponsored by Lincolnshire Co-operative Society, Taylor Lindsey, Fleetline despatch Ltd and British Gas.
