Learn to swim
Pentaqua's Learn-to-Swim provides professional tuition for children who want to learn to swim or improve their technical swimming skills. The Learn-to-Swim team operates under the guidance of Learn to swim/teaching Co-ordinator Pat Crowley and his qualified team and uses the pools at Yarborough and North Kesteven.
Initially, for beginners, emphasis is placed on being safe, comfortable and confident in the water. Skills in all of the main swimming strokes are then developed in structures groups where each swimmer's progress is carefully monitored. Twice a year we encourage all the swimmers to attempt to improve their distance skills and badges are awarded from 5 metres to 1 mile.
Once the basic swimming skills have been acquired, swimmers are able to develop their techniques with tuition in areas such as starts and racing turns. Those who wish to join social or training squads within Pentaqua are invited to do so. This provides the children with the opportunity to take part in small friendly competitions, or just to swim socially with a group of swimmers with similar skills.
Joining City of Lincoln Pentaqua Learn-to-Swim
We currently teach 150 children in the "learn to swim" scheme and teaching groups. There is a waiting list for all of our sessions, so it is important to register your interest early. We take children from age 4 1/2. As soon as places become available we invite people from our waiting list to join an appropriate beginner or intermediate group.
All our teachers hold A.S.A teaching qualifications and are fully CRB checked.
